The region within which the Florida State University Coastal & Marine Laboratory (FSUCML) is imbedded is relatively untouched by the development that plagues many of Florida's shores. As such, it includes a mosaic of habitats ranging from oyster reefs to seagrass meadows, from freshwater bogs to salt marshes, with ready access to nearshore sponge reefs and offshore drowned patch reefs. The mission of the FSUCML is to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research focused on the coastal and marine ecosystems of the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, with a focus on solving the ecological problems faced by the region by providing the scientific underpinnings for informed policy decisions.

I am a sixth-generation local of Apalachicola with a deep love for the water. Growing up in this beautiful area, I developed a passion for the outdoors at a very young age, and I always knew that the water would be a central part of my life. I earned my degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in ecology from Florida Gulf Coast University, which deepened my understanding and appreciation of the local ecosystems.

After graduating high school in 2020, I quickly earned my captain’s license and began guiding on the waters I’ve always called home. For the past several years, I’ve been fortunate to guide others through the bountiful waters of Apalachicola and the surrounding areas, sharing my love for fishing and the outdoors.

What I enjoy most about my work is learning to adapt to the changing fishing conditions, always striving to find the best spots and techniques. But my true joy comes from watching my clients experience the same excitement and sense of wonder that made me fall in love with fishing and the natural world in the first place.
