Sunset and Full Moon Climb at Cape St. George Lighthouse
The September Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will take place on Sunday, September 7, 2025. This special event offers visitors the chance to take in panoramic views of St. George Island, the Gulf, and Apalachicola Bay beneath the evening sky. The climb will run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with 15-minute time slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance reservations will be accepted. Tickets may be purchased at the Lighthouse Gift Shop, which opens at 7:00 p.m. on the evening of the event. After purchasing a ticket, climbers will sign up for a time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Each slot can accommodate up to 12 participants.
Admission is $10.00 per climber for the public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Payments can be made by cash or credit card. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to ascend the tower, and children must be 13 or older to access the outside catwalk. For more information, visitors can call the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745.
On the evening of the event, the sun will set at 7:54 p.m., and the full “Harvest” moon will rise at 8:00 p.m. The September full moon is known as the Harvest Moon, a name rooted in Native American tradition—particularly among the Algonquin tribes—who used the lunar calendar to track the seasons and time their harvest of staple crops such as corn, squash, beans, pumpkins, and rice.
The Cape St. George Light is in St. George Lighthouse Park, at the center of St. George Island where Island Drive meets Gulf Beach Drive. Parking is available in lots on either side of the park.
