Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve in Eastpoint FL

Jeff Beal, lead Florida biologist for Ducks Unlimited will inform participants about the MK Ranch project, a key restoration project on the Apalachicola River. MK Ranch comprises approximately 6,400 acres of historic tidal marsh in the lower Apalachicola River Basin and acts as a filter and storage area for water flowing from upland sites to the tributaries of Lake Wimico and Apalachicola Bay. Historic land use patterns and hydrologic alterations changed water flow patterns, restricting freshwater flows into the estuarine system. Previous unpermitted excavation activity from the 1970s severed the river from its floodplain and have had downstream consequences for water quality in Apalachicola Bay.

Please register for Sci-Café Virtual Series: Restoration of MK Ranch on Mar 25, 2021 3:00 PM EDT at: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3864379163498082063.
