Happy New Year one and all! As we at the Bowery Station Center for Debauchery and Archaic Frivolity diligently work to put the pieces back together after a rip roarin’ New Year’s Eve celebration, we are also exited about another year of great live music on the BS stage.
So how do we start off another year you ask? Here is some of the best, and a few we haven’t seen in a while.
Wednesday, Jan 3 – BS Open Mic rolls from 6-8ish. This weekly event has been a mainstay in local entertainment for years, and has fostered the development of numerous performers as they gain their confidence and stage presence. All levels of talent are welcomed and appreciated. As always, tips for performers from BS Open Mic go to charity, during the month of January we will be supporting the SGI Cat Allies, an organization run by Cathy Buell that works diligently to spay and neuter feral cats in Apalachicola and on St. George Island.
Thursday, Jan 4 – OK, Jazz enthusiasts, here is one for you. Emmaline with the West of Staley Trio are back in Apalachicola on the Bowery Station stage from 6-8:30pm. Those of you who were fortunate enough to catch their performance the first time they came through know that this is an act you don’t want to miss. Emmaline Campbell (vocals/violin) is a sophomore at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. As a member of a musical family, Emmaline has been surrounded by creative performers her entire life. Emmaline has played violin with professional orchestras in her home state of Indiana, but it is Emmaline’s gorgeous, stunning vocals, reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, that mesmerize and captivate audiences. Backed by the immensely talented West of Staley, this will be an evening to remember.
Friday, January 5 – Tommy Cooper starts off the day from 3-5. This emerging home grown talent brings a unique style and diversity to his shows and set list. Then, Sticky Tea is in the house from 6:30-9:30pm. We recently enjoyed the duo, as Tim and Jay rocked a Saturday afternoon recently, but this performance with the full band will make for a jumping Friday night. From country to rock, to southern classics, these guys do it all as the crowd begs for more.
Saturday, January 6 – Melissa Bowman returns for a Saturday afternoon from 3-5:30pm. A house favorite, Melissa has delighted crowds throughout the years on the BS stage with her powerful and dynamic vocals and stage presence. The rock the night away with the Patrick Road Band from 6:30-9:30pm. This blues based rock band is led by a female vocalist that can raise the rafters and get the joint hoppin’. Joining us from Georgia, they lit up Apalach back in September and are excited about doing it again!
Sunday, January 7 – It’s First Sunday! (Sans Tacos 🙁 ) But that doesn’t mean it won’t be a great Sunday of diverse live music. The day starts off at 2pm, as Gill Autrey entertains with some classical guitar, and periodic commentary till 2:30. Then, the man, the myth the legend….Slim Fatz steps onto the stage for a set of his growlin’ low down blues from 2:30-4:30pm. But it isn’t over yet, as Matt Law, a talent that can play any genre well, hits the stage from 5-8:30pm.
2017 was a great year for the live music enthusiast, and we expect 2018 only to get that much better. Join us at your home for great live music in Apalachicola… Bowery Station.
