EASTPOINT – The Splash Trash Tour is coming to Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve! This interactive art experience is visiting Eastpoint for two weeks in February. Don’t miss your chance to get up close and personal with artist Bette Booth’s creative work made from beach trash. The artist behind these pieces has transformed recovered beach trash into a travelling gallery of charming artwork and an interactive hands-on exhibit about trash in our oceans and what we can do to make a difference.
The exhibit is open for viewing at the ANERR Nature Center from February 1 through February 11 during Reserve hours. If you feel inspired by the artwork, be sure to stop by on Saturday, February 4 for our Splash Trash Family Event, where you can speak with the artist and make some of your own trash art.
As a representative of the 5 Gyres Institute and a professional environmental communicator, Bette Booth will also be giving a special talk on February 8 on the status of plastic trash in our oceans and what can we do to make a difference. Is recycling the answer? Is ocean clean-up technology the answer? Join in this interactive presentation to learn the answers to these and many other questions about trash in our oceans!
Mark the calendar for February 8, 2:00 pm, in the ANERR classroom. Both special events and the exhibit are free and open to the public. For more information visit splashtrashtour.com or contact Emily Jackson at Emily.a.jackson@dep.state.fl.us
Bette Booth has worked internationally and domestically in environmental communications and marketing for 25 years. A recent dive vacation to the Caribbean changed her life when she saw the amount of trash in the ocean and on the beaches. She created the Splash Trash Tour to bring awareness and action around this pressing issue. “I still believe that each one of us can make a difference, and that together we can change the world.”
