Apalachicola Margaret Key Public Library Winter Music Series

February 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Peter Fletcher is an American classical guitarist based in Detroit and New York City. He performs over 50 concerts a year, and his recordings on the Centaur Records and Towerhill Recordings labels have been critically acclaimed.

Peter offers an audience friendly, solo recital including repertoire that runs the gamut from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century.

His program features Bach’s Third Lute Suite and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Three Dances from Thesaurus Harmonicus by French lutenist Jean-Baptiste Besard; American guitarist and composer Andrew York’s Jubilation; the ever popular Caprice No. 24 by Paganini; Four Preludes by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce and music by Scarlatti and Villa-lobos.

In addition, Peter will perform a hauntingly beautiful piece by the Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco entitled Melancolia from Platero y Yo, a cycle commissioned by Andrés Segovia.

Peter is especially excited to perform Simple Gifts, a Traditional Shaker Hymn arranged for guitar by guitarist Christopher. This piece, as well as Jubilation, is part of Fletcher’s Christmas album, released in 2015.

Also, he will perform his own transcription of the Allemande from Bach’s Keyboard Partita No. 4, which will be part of his all-Bach album which will be released by Centaur Records in 2024.

The concert will culminate with Isaac Albeniz’s Córdoba (Cantos de España).

His interests outside of music include gardening, running, bike riding and fountain pens.  An avid reader, he prefers the works of Cervantes, Proust, Faulkner, and Balzac.
