SUMMARY:5th Annual SGI ShrimpFest
DESCRIPTION:The St. George Lighthouse Association is thrilled to announce the upcoming 5th Annual SGI ShrimpFest\, a celebration of succulent shrimp dishes\, vibrant music\, unique shopping\, and a festive atmosphere that promises a wonderful experience for all.\nThis year’s festival will take place on Saturday\, February 7th\, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm in the western parking area adjacent to Lighthouse Park. This one-day outdoor event will be a shrimp-lover’s paradise\, as we bring together local culinary talents to share their mouthwatering shrimp delicacies. Our array of shrimp dishes promises to tantalize your taste buds.\nAdding to the festivities\, there will be a curated group of arts and crafts vendors showcasing unique products\, local nonprofit exhibitors\, a beer and wine station and again this year\, a live musical performance by Blues Factor Band.\nTickets for the event are $5.00 for ages 13+ and will be available starting January 2\, 2026\, in person at the Lighthouse Gift Shop. Tickets will also be available at the gate on the day of the festival. Children twelve years of age and under are FREE but still require the “purchase” of a free ticket for entry. Grab your tickets\, mark your calendar\, and prepare for a day of fun. Whether you’re a seafood enthusiast\, a music lover\, or simply looking for a day of family fun on St. George Island\, the SGI ShrimpFest has something for everyone.\nThe SGI Shrimp Festival\, partially funded by the Franklin County TDC\, is a fundraiser for the St. George Lighthouse Association (SGLA). The SGLA is a 501c3 non-profit Florida corporation organized to preserve\, maintain\, and promote the Cape St. George Lighthouse. Funds raised are vital for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the Lighthouse\, the Keeper’s House Museum\, and Lighthouse Park. To that end\, festival organizers are looking for event sponsors and supporters. Those interested in becoming a festival sponsor or individual supporter can go online at www.sgishrimpfest.com to sign up.

For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. The sun will set at 7:19 p.m. and the “Hunter’s” moon will rise at 7:01p.m. on October 6th. This full Moon is often referred to as the “Hunter’s” Moon\, Blood Moon\, or Sanguine Moon. Many moons ago\, Native Americans named this bright moon for obvious reasons. The leaves are falling from trees\, the deer are fattened\, and it is time to begin storing up meat for the long winter ahead. Because the fields were traditionally reaped in late September or early October\, hunters could easily see fox and other animals that come out to glean from the fallen grains. Probably because of the threat of winter looming close\, the Hunter’s Moon is generally accorded with special honor\, historically serving as an important feast day in both Western Europe and among many Native American tribes. The Cape St. George Light is located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island\, where Island Drive (the road off the bridge) ends at Gulf Beach Drive.
