DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting Coastal Twilight at the Tower on Friday\, August 8 from 8:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special after-hours event invites visitors to enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as the sun sets below the horizon and the Sturgeon Moon rises. \n  \nThe moon in August is called the Sturgeon Moon because of the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain; this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. (Credit: Almanac.com) \n  \nVisitors can tour the Keeper’s House Museum and see the original\, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will also be offering unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. Guests are welcome to bring a chair and relax as the sky goes from golden sunset hues to evening blues. \n  \nThose who wish to climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast can take part in twilight tower climbs. From the top\, climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views\, the colors of the sunset\, and the glow of the rising moon. Evening climbs cost $10 and are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Due to limited availability\, climb reservations are strongly encouraged. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall. Children under 12 climb free with ticketed adults. DESCRIPTION:The August Sunset and Full Moon Climb at the Cape St. George Lighthouse on St. George Island will be held on Saturday\, August 9\, 2025. Visitors can enjoy this opportunity to view St. George Island\, the Gulf of Mexico and the Apalachicola Bay under the evening sky. \nThe Sunset and Full Moon Climb will begin at 8:00 p.m. and run until 10:00 p.m. Fifteen-minute time slots will be allotted for each group on a first-come\, first-served basis. No advanced reservations will be made. You will purchase your tickets in the gift shop and then sign up for your 15-minute time slot with the lighthouse keeper. Up to 12 people are allowed in each 15-minute time slot. The gift shop will open at 7:30 p.m. that night to begin selling tickets. \nCost is $10.00 per climber for the general public and $7.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. Cash or credit card payments accepted. All climbers must be at least 40 inches tall to climb the tower and children must be age 13 and over to access the outside catwalk. For more information\, please contact the Lighthouse Gift Shop at 850-927-7745. \nThe sun will set at 8:25 p.m. and the “Sturgeon” moon will rise at 8:57 p.m. on August 9th. The August full moon is called the Sturgeon moon because sturgeon\, large fish common to the Great Lakes and other large bodies of water\, are most readily caught in August. DESCRIPTION:Join us for local ghost stories\, area legends\, and tales of hauntings in downtown Apalachicola while using ghost-hunting equipment to seek out any lingering spirits. Select tour goers and volunteers will get to use EMF detectors\, and other ghost-hunting equipment at select locations on the tour. Bring your positive energy and let’s try to say “hello” to the ghosts of Apalachicola. The tour will begin in front of the Chamber of Commerce located at 17 Avenue E next to the Dixie Theatre. SUMMARY:Adult Crafternoon: Pothead Planters Workshop at Eastpoint Library
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) are pleased to announce another fun and creative event in their popular Program Series – Adult Crafternoon: Pothead Planters. This hands-on crafting workshop will take place on Thursday\, August 14\, 2025\, at 2:30 PM at the Eastpoint Branch Library\, located at 160 Hickory Dip Road\, Eastpoint\, FL 32328. The workshop is free with all materials supplied and open to all adults. No library card is required. \nAdults will create and make Pothead Planters – Participants will design and assemble their own “Pothead Planters”—a charming and humorous craft project where planters are decorated to resemble playful faces and topped with plant “hair.” \nAdult Crafternoons\, held the 2nd Thursday each month at the Eastpoint Branch Library\, are a great way to unwind\, connect with others\, and take home a handmade treasure. This session is designed to be an enjoyable and stress-free experience\, perfect for both beginners and seasoned crafters. \nThe Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, a 501(c)(3) organization\, offers the Program Series to ensure that the libraries in Eastpoint and Carrabelle continue to provide informational\, educational and cultural materials for the benefit of persons of all ages in the community.
