SUMMARY:U.S. Women of WWII presented by  Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting an exhibit on the U.S. Women of WWII.  This exhibit will open on Tuesday\, May 5 and be on display at the museum until Saturday\, May 30.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. \n  \nDuring WWII\, American women played a crucial role\, serving in the war effort as members of the Women’s Army Corps (WACs)\, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) of the U.S. Navy\, the SPARs of the United States Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (Semper Paratus\, Always Ready)\, the U. S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve (MCWR)\, and as WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots)\, as well as civilians working in war industries throughout the country. Over 350\,000 American women served in the U. S. Armed Forces during World War II\, taking on over 200 different roles. Their work filled vital positions that supported the war effort both at home and overseas and ranged from mechanics\, pilots\, and drivers to gunnery instructors\, nurses\, postal workers\, and translators. During their service\, 432 servicewomen lost their lives and 88 were taken prisoner. \n  \nThis exhibit will showcase the many contributions of women during WWII and explain the important roles they played in the war effort. Featured displays will include historic photos and authentic artifacts such as uniforms\, handbooks\, and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist. The exhibit will also highlight individuals like U.S. Navy Flight Nurses\, who were among the first women to arrive at battles such as Iwo Jima and Okinawa\, and will remember and honor many of the local women of Franklin County who served during World War II. \n  \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. SUMMARY:Adult Crafternoon at the  Franklin County Public Libraries
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) invites visitors and residents to enjoy a relaxing and creative afternoon at the upcoming Adult Crafternoon workshop. This engaging program will take place on Tuesday\, January 21\, at 2:30 pm ET\, at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches. \n  \nParticipants will have the opportunity to create their own faux stained glass. This project offers guests an opportunity to make their own colorful work of art without the need for expensive equipment or advanced artistic skills\, making it perfect for crafters of all experience levels. Supplies are included\, and the event is free and open to all adults—no library card required. \n  \nAdult Crafternoon is part of the Franklin County Public Libraries’ Program Series\, which provides engaging activities for all ages. The Program Series is packed with exciting events\, including StoryTimes for children\, STEM Space for young explorers\, Kids Crafts and more. Each program is designed to cater to different interests\, ensuring that there’s something for everyone in the community. Regular programs will continue as scheduled\, including the Eastpoint Book Chat on the 1st Tuesday at 1:30 pm\, the Carrabelle Book Chat on the 1st Friday at 1:30 pm\, and the Eastpoint Writer’s Forum on the 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 pm. \n  \nThe Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the libraries in Eastpoint and Carrabelle\, proudly sponsor the Fall Program Series. SUMMARY:Blue Moon Celebrated at Crooked River Lighthouse’s Twilight at the Tower
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting Twilight at the Tower on Saturday\, May 30 from 7:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special event invites visitors to enjoy after-hours museum visits\, gift shop browsing\, a glowing bonfire\, tower climbs\, and the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as evening falls and the Blue moon rises. \n  \nThe phrase “Blue Moon” goes back hundreds of years. One of the earliest mentions was in a pamphlet in the 1500s that joked people would believe anything their minister told them—even that the Moon was blue. The phrase was meant to describe something obviously ridiculous. Today\, we use “once in a blue moon” to describe something rare\, and in astronomy it simply means an extra full moon in a cycle\, most often the second full moon in one month. \n  \nThe Keeper’s House Museum will be open for after-hours tours featuring the lighthouse’s original Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will offer a variety of unique nautical gifts and souvenirs\, and the Beacon Bistro will have delicious baked goodies\, popcorn\, hot chocolate\, and s’more kits available by donation. A glowing bonfire will create a perfect atmosphere for folks to kick back\, relax and enjoy the evening. As the sky shifts from watercolor hues to deep evening blues\, visitors are welcome to bring a chair and unwind on the lighthouse grounds. \n  \nVisitors seeking an unforgettable experience can enjoy twilight tower climbs to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast. From the top\, climbers will be treated to panoramic views of St. George Sound\, Carrabelle Beach and the beautiful colors of the evening sky. Climb reservations are encouraged. Evening climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals. Climbers 12 and under are free with ticketed adults and must be at least 44 inches tall.  Climb reservations are available in the gift shop or online at crookedriverlighthouse.com/full-moon-events/. \n  \nCrooked River Lighthouse is located at 1975 Hwy 98\, in Carrabelle. SUMMARY:Adult Crafternoon at the  Franklin County Public Libraries
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) invites visitors and residents to enjoy a relaxing and creative afternoon at the upcoming Adult Crafternoon workshop. This engaging program will take place on Tuesday\, January 21\, at 2:30 pm ET\, at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches. \n  \nParticipants will have the opportunity to create their own faux stained glass. This project offers guests an opportunity to make their own colorful work of art without the need for expensive equipment or advanced artistic skills\, making it perfect for crafters of all experience levels. Supplies are included\, and the event is free and open to all adults—no library card required. \n  \nAdult Crafternoon is part of the Franklin County Public Libraries’ Program Series\, which provides engaging activities for all ages. The Program Series is packed with exciting events\, including StoryTimes for children\, STEM Space for young explorers\, Kids Crafts and more. Each program is designed to cater to different interests\, ensuring that there’s something for everyone in the community. Regular programs will continue as scheduled\, including the Eastpoint Book Chat on the 1st Tuesday at 1:30 pm\, the Carrabelle Book Chat on the 1st Friday at 1:30 pm\, and the Eastpoint Writer’s Forum on the 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 pm. \n  \nThe Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the libraries in Eastpoint and Carrabelle\, proudly sponsor the Fall Program Series. These sessions are part of the Program Series\, offering something for everyone – young children\, students\, and lifelong learners. These events are open to the public—no library card is required—and offer a welcoming\, inclusive space for individuals of all ages to learn\, explore\, and connect through technology. \n  \nThe Tech Help sessions will be held every Tuesday in September- September 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, and 30 – at 11:00 am ET at the Carrabelle Branch Library\, located at 311 St. James Ave. SE (Highway 98)\, Carrabelle\, FL. These relaxed\, judgment-free sessions provide one-on-one technology assistance for guests who need help with devices\, email\, digital resources\, and basic tech skills. SUMMARY:June Twilight at the Tower at Crooked River Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting Twilight at the Tower on Sunday\, June 28 from 7:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special event invites visitors to enjoy after-hours museum visits\, gift shop browsing\, a glowing bonfire\, tower climbs\, and the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as evening falls and the Strawberry moon rises. \n  \nJune’s full Moon has traditionally been called the Strawberry Moon by Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States as well as the Ojibwe\, Dakota\, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered.” (Credit: Old Farmer’s Almanac) \n  \nThe Keeper’s House Museum will be open for after-hours tours featuring the lighthouse’s original Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will offer a variety of unique nautical gifts and souvenirs\, and the Beacon Bistro will have delicious baked goodies\, popcorn\, hot chocolate\, and s’more kits available by donation. A glowing bonfire will create a perfect atmosphere for folks to kick back\, relax and enjoy the evening. As the sky shifts from watercolor hues to deep evening blues\, visitors are welcome to bring a chair and unwind on the lighthouse grounds. \n  \nVisitors seeking an unforgettable experience can enjoy twilight tower climbs to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast. From the top\, climbers will be treated to panoramic views of St. George Sound\, Carrabelle Beach and the beautiful colors of the evening sky. Climb reservations are encouraged. Evening climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals.
