12th Annual Apalachicola Antique & Classic Boat Show will start on Friday, April 23rd with a boat building demonstration by local boat builders and the arrival of the Governor Stone, a classic, gaff rigged schooner built in 1877. Saturday, antique boats, examples of classic and traditional vessels, workboats, and fiberglass and aluminum classics will all be on display throughout the day. Special highlights include authentic oyster boats, workboats, and home-built boats by skilled craftsmen, antique outboard engines, plus antique automobiles and art booths. The Governor Stone will be featured dockside for walk on tours. it has been totally restored and is an exhibit unto itself as well as a National Historic Landmark. We will also have over 20 antique automobiles. Archaeologist Kevin Porter will be on hand to talk about the 50 foot Apalachicola Trader's Canoe at the Cotton Warehouse and expert model boat builders will display their works of art.
The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve will have displays on the Apalachicola River and its flora and fauna, plus the Franklin County Seafood Workers Association will have demonstrations on oyster tonging. The boat building demonstration conitunes and the Riverkeepers will be giving guided tours of the river.
