The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve is a the second largest in the nation encompassing over 246,000 acres. The Reserve's Nature Center in Eastpoint features exhibits on the flora and fauna of the ares including aquariums, open tanks, local sea life, a small theater. Open to the public Tuesday - Saturday 9:00-4:30 pm.

Friends of Franklin County State Parks are a nonprofit citizen support organization that assists our local state parks: St. George Island State park, John Gorrie Museum, Orman House and Chapman Gardens.

The Homeless Liaison is contracted by the Franklin County Schools through Title I, pt. a; Title X, the No Child Left Behind Act through Federal Stimulus Funds. The job consists of identifying and providing services for homeless students from k-12 through 12th grade. Homeless would be deemed as families who are sharing the home of friends/or other family members due to loss of home or economic situations. Unaccompanied Youth and thus depending on their situation may qualify for services such as help obtaining records, food, clothing, school supplies, etc.; a student cannot be turned away from enrolling in school based on lack of records and the Homeless Liaison works with school staff to make sure enrollment is immediate. If any family is affected by fire, an arrest or medical emergency/situation she makes sure the student's education is not affected by their living situation. The Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle has more than 4,200 adult members and over 8,500 girl members and is part of Girl Scouts of the USA. Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 through 17 (or kindergarten through grade 12) and adult women and men who subscribe to the ideals stated in the Girl Scout Promise & Law. Decommisioned by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1995, the lighthouse has been restored and is an operating aid to navigation once again. An authentic replica of the keeper's house features both history and science exhibits as well as a gift shop. The park is a great place for a family picnic -or even a quick photo op and fun stop for road weary travelers. The 70 ft wooden ship " The Carabella" provides hours of fun and fantasy. The American Red Cross has been serving Tallahassee and the surrounding area since 1917. In the past eighty-three years, the American Red Cross has provided a helping hand by reaching out to local residents, and last year touched the lives of more than 10,500 people in the eight counties that we serve. The American Red Cross provided a "helping hand" that was needed following a disaster, helping to get loved ones home from the military during an emergency, training people in first aid, CPR, swimming, and HIV/AIDS courses.

A Florida not-for-profit Citizen support organization formed to protect, preserve and support the St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve and St. Joseph Bay Aquatic Preserve. called for office hours. Preserve lands open for public use anytime.

On June 6, 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke to the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force. He started his address by saying, "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. For many, this crusade started on Florida's Forgotten Coast. For four years, (acres) of beaches and woods along the shores of North Florida were converted to a base with the sole purpose of training amphibious soldiers and their support groups. Originally name Camp Carrabelle after the community it took over, and later named Camp Gordon Johnston, this facility trained over a quarter million men for amphibious assaults during World War II. Hours are: Monday thru Thursday 1300 – 1600 hours. Friday 1200 till 1600 hours and Saturday 1000 till 1400 hours. Tours and special request are welcome.
