is a Plantation-style Estate and Butterfly Sanctuary on the Gulf of Mexico. At Jasmine, there are two ground floor residences available for rent: the "Garden Villa" and the "Honeymoon Suite," each with its own separate and private entrance.
We consider our region to be in "The Other Florida,"* the Florida of the north and west, away from the hustle and bustle of cities and typical overdeveloped tourist areas - another country altogether... some call this region "The Forgotten Coast".
We hope that our guests will be captivated by the beauty of the pine forests, the long stretches of empty white-sand beaches, the sounds and scents of the country, and the ever-changing Gulf. You will come to appreciate this tranquil and magical region and be renewed by the experience.
*"The Other Florida" is the title of a memoir written in 1978 by the naturalist and biographer Gloria Jahoda. A sophisticated Northerner by birth and upbringing, Mrs. Jahoda came to live in Tallahassee in the 1960's. She found herself in a strange new world which she was determined to understand and which, as she came to know more about it, learned to care for deeply. Her book, one of many which we have in our library for guest use, is the story of a personal journey into unknown territory.
LOCATION
Jasmine-by-the-Sea is located just west of Carrabelle, along U.S. Highway 98 on the Florida Panhandle approximately 50 miles southwest of Tallahassee. Carrabelle is unique for its freshwater and saltwater fishing (a well-kept secret of this tiny coastal town) and is a boat lover's paradise. Activities here revolve around the natural environment. Great opportunities abound for birding, kayaking, hiking, or simply taking a relaxed stroll down a deserted beach. Carrabelle is home to the world's smallest police station, The Big Bend Saltwater Classic (fishing tournament), and the St. James Bay golf course. Nearby is the beautifully picturesque and historic Victorian town of Apalachicola, featuring gourmet restaurants, delightful galleries and historic homes. Heading up the great Apalachicola River, you can view many wild and isolated marshes and swamps, or you can take trips across the Bay to the barrier islands - St. Vincent Island, Cape St. George State Preserve and Dog Island.
The Tallahasee Regional airport (TLH) is located approximately 42 miles northeast of Carrabelle.
For those arriving in private boats or planes, there are facilities available within a short distance of the estate. Please contact us with your specific travel needs.
