Clayton Mathis and The Preacher, Stephen Pecot, will grace the stage at the Apalachicola Margaret Key Public Library on Wednesday, September 25th from 6:00 to 7:30 for the final show of the Summer Music Series.
Clayton Mathis is a well known figure around Apalachicola. He hails from Gaffney, South Carolina where he developed his love of music. His grandmother tried to teach him piano but he quit at the age of 12. Around 15 he tried guitar lessons but couldn’t seem to grasp the concept of “practice.” So he gave up. His love of music continued and he listened to every genre imaginable; from Ernest Tubb to Wu-Tang Clan to Guns NRoses to Thievery Corporation. In 2013 he moved to Apalachicola. Here he was so inspired by his surroundings that he decided to pick up the guitar again. He now writes and performs music weaving around topics such as religion, politics, unanswered questions, relationships, drinking, love, and family. He had the privilege of having his brother produce his debut album in 2020 titled Welcome to the in Between in Columbia, South Carolina. A brewer/bar owner by day, you may find him slugging back a few beers and strumming a guitar on a corner or in one of the local bars.
The Preacher, Stephen Pecot, is the priest at Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola. A New Orleans native, he has played guitar and bass in numerous rock and roll bands for 40 years. He, his wife, Travis, and several animals, including two horses, moved to Apalachicola in 2023. He is excited to join Clayton and to make some noise in the Library.
PALS transforms the Library into a listening room where the music is enjoyed in the comfort of the Air-Conditioned venue. The concert is FREE and closes out the Summer Music Series presented by PALS, the Friends of the Library, with the financial support of the 2022 Porchfest Committee.
